Activity Dates: 19 days each journey between July-December 2026
Dedicated to: 18 years old young people from Romania
Tracing Roots of Wellbeing is a DiscoverEU Inclusion project designed to open up Europe by train to young people who wouldn’t normally have the chance to travel. Through three exciting and educational journeys, the project offers 10 young participants from Harghita County the opportunity to explore different themes across European cities:
Activity 1: Active Living – Participants will focus on dynamism and movement. They will experience the Nordic culture of outdoor activities, including traditions such as sauna and cold-water immersion, to understand how movement supports physical health and mental resilience. Through active participation and firsthand experiences, they will explore healthy lifestyle practices and develop a deeper appreciation for well-being in harmony with nature.
🗺️ Estimated planned route includes stops in the following cities: Praga – Berlin – Copenhaga – Oslo – Stockholm
Activity 2: Slow Living – Participants will focus on quality time and balance. They will engage in activities such as reading in public spaces, enjoying Mediterranean meals in a welcoming social setting, and exploring how a slower pace of life contributes to emotional well-being. Through these experiences, they will gain a deeper understanding of mindful living, meaningful social connections, and the importance of balance in everyday life.
🗺️ Estimated planned route includes stops in the following cities: Planned Route: Budapesta – Venetia – Milano – Genova – Montpellier – Barcelona
These journeys aren’t just about sightseeing—they're immersive learning experiences. Participants will gain valuable skills, build confidence, and develop a greater sense of initiative. The project also helps break down barriers by offering guidance, logistical support, financial aid, and recognition through Youthpass certificates.
At its core, this initiative empowers young participants to:
Understand the benefits of travel and European opportunities
Learn how to plan meaningful, eco-friendly trips
Embrace cultural diversity and active citizenship
And gain tools for personal and professional growth.
❗ Once the groups are selected, we’ll work together to plan the travel routes, taking all logistics into account — so please note that the routes might be subject to changes.
To take part in this project you must be between 18 - 21 years old at the start of the activity.
This project is made for young people who are ready for a new experience — even if international travel has never felt possible before.
Each group will include 5 young participants, accompanied by a group leader.
No previous travel experience is required. If you’re unsure about your English or nervous about language barriers — don’t worry. We’re here to support you, and we’ll find solutions together. This is a safe and welcoming opportunity to grow, explore, and take your next step forward.
We especially welcome young people who:
Live in smaller communities or travel long distances for school — this journey will connect you with new people, places, and opportunities beyond your everyday environment.
Are still figuring out what's next after graduation — this journey could spark ideas, open doors, and inspire future plans.
Have limited access to educational, professional, or personal development opportunities — through international exchange and non-formal learning, you will discover new perspectives and possibilities.
Feel that local career options are limited or that working abroad in low-skilled jobs is the only realistic choice — the project will introduce alternative pathways and help you broaden your aspirations.
Come from multicultural or multilingual communities where communication barriers can sometimes create distance — you will have the chance to build confidence, collaborate with diverse peers, and strengthen your intercultural skills.
Want to improve your well-being, self-confidence, and active participation in community life — the activities will encourage healthy habits, personal growth, and meaningful engagement with others.
This project is about discovering new paths, building confidence, and experiencing life beyond your everyday environment. It’s a chance to connect with others, grow personally, and explore new educational or career opportunities in a supportive and inclusive space.
Accommodation, daily meals, and local transport are all covered within a maximum budget of €78 per person per day.
ARAO will offer support to manage the booking of accommodation and activities in a practical and cost-effective way. Our team will ensure all arrangements are safe, budget-friendly, and located in secure areas.
We’ll encourage shared apartments, so participants can stay together — this helps build connection, cooperation, and a supportive group atmosphere. Whenever possible, we will also encourage shared, home-cooked meals to help reduce costs and create a sense of community.
All bookings will be finalized after the group is selected and the final travel route is confirmed, so we can make sure everything is tailored to the group’s specific needs and journey.
As mentioned earlier, selected applicants will mainly travel by rail during the project. To facilitate this, you will need to download the Discover EU travel app.
The Interrail Pass provides 7 travel days within a 19-day period, covering all transport expenses. A travel day is a 24-hour period from 00:00 AM (midnight) to 23:59 PM on the same calendar day. If you start your journey at 23:00, you’ll lose that travel day, as it ends at 23:59 PM.
Both participants and their accompanying person will travel together on the same means of transport.
All participants will have to have a valid travel insurance for the entire duration of the journey(15 days). The insurance should cover the following:
Third-party liability
Lost or stolen baggage
Accident and serious illness
Additionally, we highly recommend getting a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which covers necessary health services while you're traveling in the EU. Don’t worry — we’re here to help and support you in obtaining this card through your national health insurance provider.
This is not just a trip — it’s your learning journey!
From planning your budget, itinerary, and tickets to sharing a living space with others and exploring new cities, this experience will be exciting and full of opportunities. Get ready for an intense but rewarding time of personal growth, new friendships, and unforgettable experiences!
To help you make the most of this journey, you are invited to reflect daily and document your experiences in the DiscoverEU Travel Journal.
